Tragedy
struck the world at the end of December 2005 as a 9.0 earthquake
and tsunami waves devastated countries in Asia as well as people
throughout the world. For many, the 2004 New Year’s celebrations
were one of mourning and holding out hope that loved ones may
still be found. While you may not know individuals personally,
this tragedy can still strike at your psyche as you may feel the
global emotions of disbelief. For this reason, thoughts focus
on your morality and need to plan for the future while honoring
the important traditions from your past.
Venus and Mercury enter
Capricorn on January 9, 2005. One day later, the new Moon occurs,
also in Capricorn. Capricorn represents the need to understand
structures in your life and pay attention to your family. While
this is a time for long-term planning, it’s important to
develop those plans with consideration given to your family traditions.
If you have elderly
relatives, take time to understand their history. If you have
children, have them record the oral history of their grandparents
so that family traditions and lore are not forgotten as time moves
on. Also, take time to visit elderly neighbors in your community
to make certain they are doing all right.
When you consider your
long-term plans, review your retirement accounts as well as health
plans. The stock market may start settling down at this time,
but there will still be difficulties with the value of the dollar.
If this difficulty continues, it could impact the bond market.
Meanwhile the transportation industry continues having financial
difficulties that could impact your travel plans.
With the new Congress
beginning its session the first week of January, it won’t
take Congress long to scrutinize legislation that deals with health
care and retirement programs, including social security. Government
officials are emphasizing private retirement accounts while corporations
are cutting back on retirement and medical benefits.
There is a desire by
government leaders to heal any perceived or real divides in the
country. The leadership is reaching out to heal any wounds found
through the previous election. Meanwhile, the leadership of the
country is also trying to reach out to allies, both current and
potential, to resolve disagreements about the direction this country
is taking on an international level. However, they will learn
that not all leaders in other countries are receptive to USA leadership
outreach.
As the Sun moves into
Aquarius on January 19, 2005, take the decision you made regarding
your long-term plans and see how those decisions can be implemented
in your daily routine. If part of your long-term plans involved
financial decisions, start finding ways to save money. Even throwing
your “pocket” coin into a can until the can is full
can lead you to save $50 to $100 per month. You may even want
to teach your children to put their extra coin into some sort
of tin. Maybe even purchase them a piggy bank for the coin.
This is also an important
time to maintain an excellent health regiment. If the flu occurs,
it will start around this time period. Therefore, there could
be an increase in respiratory problems. However, every step you
can take to increase your immune system will help you at this
time.
A few hours later,
on January 19, 2005, Saturn forms a quincunx to Pluto. This same
aspect occurs again on May 23, 2005.
A quincunx represents
the need to make adjustments in your life. Saturn represents the
need to look at your foundations. This could be the job that you’re
holding. It could be the relationships you have with other individuals,
especially your parents. Pluto represents the values other people
have and expect you to accept. Non-acceptance of their values
could lead to power struggles and other problems. Or, you may
find that it’s easy to listen to their opinions and increase
your perspective on matters in your life.
Both Saturn and Pluto
represent the importance of finding your place in society and
working with other people. It can represent struggles in the workplace
because your needs are not being met. Or, it can represent adjusting
your work attitude to match those you work with or for.
Saturn and Pluto also
represent financial matters, such as retirement programs or savings
plans. There will be an adjustment in interest rates, with rates
moving higher. So this is a time period to look at all your financial
plans, including credit cards and home equity lines-of-credit.
For environmentalists,
this may be a time of concern. Congress will be looking at ways
to increase the use of public lands by industries. There will
be a change in how some of these lands are protected from over-use.
The weather will also
be unusually warm during this time period and for a while there
will be less precipitation. For those living on the east coast,
this could mean less snow. Or, when precipitation falls, it could
mean more sleet because the temperatures aren’t cold enough
for the snow.
For the federal government,
the adjustments will need to be made in several areas: military
activity overseas; corporate approaches to retirement programs,
especially buy-out packages for CEOs; and regulatory changes in
financial institutions, such as banks and insurance companies.
Communication is the
biggest factor when Mercury enters Aquarius on January 30, 2005.
Again there is an emphasis on your place in the global economy.
Audio and video changes are occurring in the computer, cell phone
(mobile phone), and home audio/video systems. Your children may
want new cells phones with these technological changes. Increased
use of computers in the classroom may find some children frustrated
because they are losing their creativity. Computer games are driving
down the toy industry. As a matter of fact, this is not really
the best time to purchase stock with most toy companies unless
they find a way to add computerized games to their product line.
While earlier this
month the weather was warmer and dryer than usual, the end of
January will increase precipitation, especially on the east coast
leading to snow storms.
